Mount Eden

On Saturday we went into Auckland for the day.  We spent some time at the Art Gallery where there was an exhibit called The Māori Portraits: Gottfried Lindauer's New Zealand.  Pretty interesting and an impressive number of paintings by one person but the younger kids can only handle being in a gallery for so long!

Lindauer's most painted work
From there we found the kite shop we had looked up and found a colourful kite to have fun with in all the wind here.  Lukas bought one too.  We'll have to get some cool pictures of those at some point.

Then we walked up Mount Eden Domain, a dormant volcano.  So amazing!  From the top we had a 360 degree view of Auckland.

A panorama shot part way up

The crater is so deep - made me dizzy looking down.
From up here you can see a whole bunch of other domains dotting the landscape.

A view of Rangitoto - the youngest volcano at about 600 years old

We're also loving the cool playgrounds here...
